How to sew an open seam

Open seam
This is the basic seam and is suitable for most projects.

Steps to sew an open seam

  1. Place fabric right sides together and sew 1.5cm (5/8”) in from the edge.
  2. Neaten the edges using your preferred method i.e. over-locker (as in sample shown) zig-zag stitch or pinking shears.
  3. Press open for a neat finish.

Note:
The measurement given here of 1.5cm (5/8") is the standard seam allowance adjust up and down to as needed.
